Gasteracantha hasseltii on web < Back
Hasselt's spiny spider, Gasteracantha hasseltii, is a small and very attractive spiny orb-weaver spider. The carapace being yellow coloured with blue posterior horns and reddish coloured legs. They grow up to 8mm in size excluding the legs. They are found throughout southeast Asia. My own experience with these spiders is that they seem to be localised in occurance, being very easy to find repeatedly year on year in certain spots and uncommon in other locations of the same habitat. This doesnt seem to be an environmental issue rather some sort of population dynamics I suspect. Here seen on its web.
