Blackfriars Bridge Arch closeup < Back
The current Blackfriars Bridge was opened in 1869 by Queen Victoria. It is 923 feet long and consists of five wrought iron arches, constructed to a design by Thomas Cubitt. The bridge carries road traffic - the A201 road and also pedestrian traffic across the river Thames. On the piers are sculptures of animal life by John Birnie Philip.
