Life Guard and arch < Back
The Life Guards are the senior regiment of the British Army and with the Blues and Royals make up the Household Cavalry. The first troop were raised by King Charles II in 1656. They are the monarchs personal body guard essentially the Sovereigns personal troops. When not on ceremonial duties, they serve on active duty as part of the Royal Armoured Corps and are an integral part of the British Army. The easiest way to tell a Life Guard from Blues and Royals is the white plume colour.
