Lithops karasmontana var aiaisensis < Back
Lithops karasmontana var aiaisensis, more commonly known as a living stone. Originally collected from the western region of South Africa, now Namibia, in the Karas mountains. This variety was collected in 1961 east of Ai-Ais. The plant itself is composed of two modified leaves which are almost fused, with the meristem and other plant organs found deep within the fissure. Lithops spp. with a C number can be traced to a specific locality after Professor Cole's book, "LITHOPS LOCALITY DATA". The APG II system also classifies the former Mesembryanthemaceae family under the Aizoaceae. Lithops are obligate outcrossers meaning they require pollination from a seperate plant.
