Neomarica longifolia < Back
Neomarica longifolia, is a species of what are populary known as 'Walking Iris'. A new plantlet can appear where the flower emerged, the growing weight of the plantlet causes the stem to eventually bend down where the plantlet can then take hold in the soil, hence the popular name. They are also sometimes known as Apostle Plants. This species occurs naturally along the Brazillian Atlantic coast in the states of Rio and Sao Paulo. Seen here growing wild in a lightly shaded part of the forest.
