Crimson Sunbird, Female image Crimson Sunbird, Female            < Back

The Crimson Sunbird, Aethopyga siparaja, is a Southeast Asian Sunbird, found from Indian through to Indonesia and the Philipines. The sunbirds are a group of very small Old World passerine birds which feed largely on nectar, although they will also take insects, especially when feeding young.

Flight is fast and direct on their short wings, and while they can feed while hovering like a hummingbird, they generally prefer to perch whilst feeding. Breeding is normally mid year, where the nest is suspended and woven with grasses and other fibres, often over or near water.
